Championship week see’s an excellent climax

Today (29/06/14) saw Championship Week draw to a close with 4 excellent Championship Finals.

The Gents was a close affair before defending champion Jonathan Gilmour let his experience shine through and pull away from first time finalist Eoin Patrick. Eoin had a great week but this was one tie too far, based on his performance Eoin will have many more opportunities to win the trophy. Congratulations Jonathan on a fantastic defence of your title.

The first playing of The Alistair Law Championship saw a very competitive final between Paul McMenemy and Barry Nixon. Barry was strongest on the day and was a 3&2 victor.

The Seniors Championship also saw a defending champion in the final with David Kelly making a valiant defence of his title. On the day Stephen Moffat proved one challenge too far with Stephen winning the title with a 3&2 victory.

Last but not least the Junior Championship was contested between junior starlet Fraser Lawrie and rising star Euan McNeill. Euan at just 14 has had a fantastic year and is showing all the signs of developing into an excellent player. Fraser now representing Renfrewshire at County level was too strong on the day for Euan coming out the victor with a 4&2 win over 36 holes.

Congratulations to all the finalists and all players who competed in all stages of the Club Championships.

Junior success at County Level

Congratulations to Matt Dalrymple and Fraser Lawrie who following the Junior County Championship qualified for the matchplay segment of the event. Both players won their respective Last 16 ties and unfortunatley came face to face in the Quarter Finals, Fraser coming out a strong victor on the day.

Fraser was back at Kilmacolm yesterday playing his Semi Final against Caldwell’s Sean Burns and lost narrowly 2down after 18 holes in a tough contest. This is a sign of the improvement Fraser has made under the guidance of Club Pro Gerry Reilly.

Congratulations to both boys and good luck for the rest of the season.

Sunday 25th May saw qualification take place of the Club Championship. The top 15 players plus the current Champion Jonathan Gilmour qualified for the final stages of the Championship. Scoring was charateristically high on a tough day for scoring with heavy rain and high winds throuoghout the day.

The Club Strokeplay Champion was also crowned with Jonathan Gilmour posting the lowest 36 Hole score on the day securing the title of Club Strokeplay Champion for 2014.

Over the past couple of years we have experience extensive vandalism to the Golf Course. This has been occurring more frequently over the past few weeks. Can you please be vigilant when playing on the course. If you see anyone who should not be on the course please challenge them.

Golf Courses are a public right of way under the Countryside & Public Rights of Way Act 2000, however that does not allow people to vandalise our property. All matters are photographed and reported to Police Scotland but in most cases without evidence it is extremely difficult for us to do anything. Therefore please challenge everyone on course.

The most recent damage happened last night (Friday 9th May and has resulted in extensive damage to the 8th Green by use of a Yellow Ditch Post. The Green Staff are in the process of trying to fix the problem but this may take time and money so please bear with us.
